A Conversation

Sittin' here writin' this thinkin' about you
Words I said out of place - how could I doubt you?
You only wanted the best that you had for me
How could I run away from all you wanted?
Wonderin' why I'm here - I've thought it all before
Why can't I just move on? Why do I keep draggin' myself back here?
To the floor, on my knees, prayin', "Please let me know"
"Have some faith, disappear, and I will show you home"
God, I don't know it all and I am fallin' fast
I want to find it out, not just take somebody else's words
Is that wrong? (Wrong?) I don't know (No) but that's right where I'm at
So take me now (Now) as I am (Am) if you're okay with that
I'm through with it--all the liars--I am so sick and tired
Jump outside, hold my hand, I don't know where I'll land
Lead me on (On), open wide (Wide), say all the words inside
Have no fear (Fear), I am here (Hear), and I will show you
Home, home is where you wanna be
Because you are the only one that I see
Home, home is where you wanna be
It is where you wanna be

Coffee and Lighthouses

I still work at the coffee shop on the shore
Twenty years have gone by, I've seen a thousand waves burst forth
Like all the dreams we used to have while sitting in the lighthouse
We saw the ships go sailing past that never knew about us
The heavens gave a glorious light that cut right through the harbor
A hundred times we held our breath as we began to wonder
What on Earth are we here for?
Is there really something more?
I still have the bleached blonde hair we wore back then
The world fit in our palm, we had to only play pretend
And nothing was beyond our reach, we only had to dream it
The county lines, the city streets, until we reached our limit
The years went by so aching fast, the ground began to tremble
The seagulls flew, the angels fell, the world it was unstable
And now we're sitting on a road
Talkin' 'bout the things unknown:
What on Earth are we here for?
Is there really something more?
These are the questions asked when we are getting older
These are the questions asked by all sooner or later
Do we have time to weigh the signs, map out our options?
Or do we take a leap of faith and always wonder?
Do I dare to question you?
Is it wrong? What must I do?
I remember the summer days away from home
We’d wander to the field where we could be alone
The clouds came down around us, and the silence turned to thunder
The maple tree we lay beneath provided too much cover
We wandered to the open field to feel the raining come down
Our clothes were drenched, our smiles wide as we departed the ground
And now we’re sitting in a car
Saying how we’ve come so far
We haven’t figured it out yet
We’re past just getting our feet wet
These are the questions asked when we are getting older
These are the questions asked by all sooner or later
Do we have time to weigh the signs, map out our options?
Or do we take a leap of faith and always wonder?
We've been told since the age of two that the Earth was round
But now we find ourselves just staring at the ground
I've always listened to everything I'm told
But I am growing farther as I'm growing old
I've only got so many times around this sun
Will I have time to find it out before I'm done?
Do I doubt you? Maybe, but I can't help myself
A growing heart will always look at something else
Could I ever deny you?
That's the point we're coming to
Do any other options work?
I want to know before I'm in the dirt
I still work at the coffee shop on the shore

Rubicon
02:31
|
|||
I’m gonna keep it simple
‘Cause my words always seem
To get in between
I’m gonna keep it simple
‘Cause I want you to know
Exactly what I mean
I hide behind these eyes
I write this imagery
To block out everything
And hide that I’m empty
I hide behind these eyes
I write the songs I sing
So you will never see
That I am still searching
I’m gonna keep it simple
‘Cause I don’t want my words
To get in between
I’m gonna keep it simple
‘Cause I don’t even know
Exactly what I mean
I crossed the Rubicon
My die’s already cast
There is no turning back
Not that I’d even want to
I’m leavin’ bliss behind
With it goes ignorance
My analytic mind
Has made this final test
I’m gonna keep it simple
‘Cause I don’t want my words
To get in between
I’m gonna keep it simple
‘Cause I’ve already lost
I’ve lost exactly what I mean
La da da do die die die etc.

Babies and Life Lessons
04:28

Two little hands, two little eyes
What surprises do you have in store?
Will you run along this road of life?
Will you stumble along the way?
Soon you'll grow and you will start to talk
Then comes school, girl, you're going fast
I never wanna see you cry
But I know that it's a part of life
You will run, play on swing sets and make many friends
You will play games of hide and seek
You will go on class field trips and ride on the bus
Have birthday parties
You will miss words on spelling tests, drop your lunch tray
You will have fallouts with your friends
You can come home and tell it all to me
I'll never leave, I love you too much
Four more years and then you'll graduate
Looking back on all the times you had
Skipping school you locked your keys in your car
Homecoming TPing the teacher's house
Then you'll go and start your final school
Graduate and you'll be on your own
Get a job and meet a man who is true
Something new, old, borrowed, something blue
I will walk you down the aisle tears on my face
I will give you away to him
You will go off and start your lives as one
Have your own children
You will have all the joys of waking up at two
When the baby is wanting food
You will tell them the same thing I told to you
"I'll never leave, I love you too much"
I open up my eyes and I realize this is the first time
That I have, have seen you, and you are, you're smiling up at me
I realize I have been day dreaming about all you will
You will do in this life, and I know time will fly and I
Don't want to miss a minute of your life, please let me in
I’m always here for you, and know that I love you

Colorless
04:17
|
|||
You're colorless
Your world is
Fallin' down around you
Your back is
Turned to everyone who
Ever tried to help you
We started out as friends
Everything was perfect then
Naive in our age
Blissful, unaware of change
Then time went by
We grew apart, and now
You're colorless
Your world is
Fallin' down around you
Your back is
Turned to everyone who
Ever tried to help you
Our past is full of holes
Our future is unknown to both
We get along just fine
But there is fear behind our eyes
You search for truth
I wonder when you, will see
You're colorless
Your world is
Fallin' down around you
Your back is
Turned to everyone who
Ever tried to help you
I saw you fallin' out
I heard you callin' out
Yellin' "Someone save me"
The sun is shinin' and your window's closed
Why won't you open up and watch the show?
The beauty in the sight of angel wings
Let's have it end tonight and watch the sunrise, so you're
Not colorless
Your world is
Stretchin' out around you
Your hand is
Turned to everyone who
Ever tried to help you

The lights around us fade to black
My green eyes, they turn to grey
I know there is no turning back
We’re standing on the edge of
Something bigger than the both of us
We’re standing on the edge of us
The clock’s still tickin’ on the wall where we left it
Would you want your time back if you could have it?
I don’t think I would
The clock’s still tickin’ on the wall where we left it
We’ll never have our time back; I wouldn’t want it
Even if I could
The lights around us fade to black
And my green, oh my green eyes, they turn to grey
I know there is no turning back
We’re standing on the edge of
Something bigger than the both of us
We’re standing on the edge of us
The clock’s still tickin’ on the wall where we left it
Would you want your time back if you could have it?
I don’t think I would
The clock’s still tickin’ on the wall where we left it
We’ll never have our time back; I wouldn’t want it
Even if I could
Please do not say this is goodbye
Please do not say this is the end
I just don’t think that I can take another night of this
I still wanna hold you
I still wanna need you, baby
I miss eating cereal with you
And watching television with you
And melting crayons on the lamp in your bedroom
I miss throwing wood down the stairs to where you stood
To where we stood
On the edge of everything
On the edge of you and me
Is this the end of everything?
The clock’s still tickin’ on the wall where we left it
Would you want your time back if you could have it?
I don’t think I would
The clock’s still tickin’ on the wall where we left it
We’ll never have our time back; I wouldn’t want it
Even if I could

Laine
06:17
|
|||
Laine, Laine is just a girl
Or so it seems to her
Everyone else thinks she's more
Laine, is different in their eyes
She's who they want to be
She is so perfect to them
But Laine, has secrets that she hides
Of insecurities
Of changes she don't like
And Laine, she wants to return
To how it was before
But she ain’t quite sure just how
And Laine, she's fallin' out of space
She's fallin' out of time
She's fallin' out with everyone
And Laine, there's nothing left to say
And she's fallin' away
From everything she was
And who will she call on?
And who will she say?
And who will she call on?
And who will she say?
Laine, Laine is at a point
Where she could turn away
From everything she knows
And Laine, she cannot understand
Just how she became
How she became this way
Laine, last year she was just fine
Everything made sense
She had purpose in her life
Now Laine, she is wastin' time
Try'n figure out
Instead of makin' it right
And Laine, she's fallin' out of space
She's fallin' out of time
She's fallin' out with everyone
And Laine, there's nothing left to say
And she's fallin' away
From everything she was
And who will she call on?
And who will she say?
And who will she call on?
And who will she say?
Laine, you’ve got to make up your mind
You can’t let them tell you what you believe
And Laine you’ve got to make up your mind
‘Cause time is running out right before your eyes
And none of us know when we’re gunna die
No none of us known when we’re gunna die
And Laine, she's fallin' out of space
She's fallin' out of time
She's fallin' out with everyone
And Laine, there's nothing left to say
And she's fallin' away
From everything she was
And who will she call on?
And who will she say?
She’s longin’ to come back
Before it’s too late

We lost another one today
Did he have a cause to die for?
Did he leave behind a legacy?
Or is he just a, name on a stone?
Did he leave behind a family?
Was he content with life?
Was he all alone and angry?
Did he wish he had more time?
Well I knew the man
And he lived his life
For the one thing that we should
Well I knew the man
And he lived his life
For the one thing that we should
He said, "When I die,
I am going to take as many with me as I can.
He said, "When I die,
I'm going to take as many with me as I can."
And he succeeded
We lost another one today
Did he have a cause to die for?
Did he leave behind a legacy?
Or is he just another one gone?
Did his life have a meaning?
Did he leave a fire behind?
Or was he still searching
When he ran out of time?
Well I knew the man
And he lived his life
For the one thing that we should
Well I knew the man
And he lived his life
For the one thing that we should
He said, "When I die,
I am going to take as many with me as I can.
He said, "When I die,
I'm going to take as many with me as I can."
And he succeeded
I am so, so very, so very proud of you
You lived your, your whole life
You lived it for this day
We lost another one today
And he had a cause to die for
Yeah he left behind a legacy
He isn't just a, name on a stone

Glow
05:17
|
|||
Electric glow, it pales your face
I’m headin’ home from this place
The plane flies over my our heads
The light fades into the distance
I am alone for the last time, for the last time, the last time
I am alone for the last time: I’m tired of feelin’ numb
Your cell phone keeps you company
Ignore the man in the next seat
The farther we can stay apart
Plastic and numbers form our hearts
I am alone for the last time, for the last time, the last time
I am alone for the last time: I’m tired of feelin’ numb
Numbers and chemicals
Explain it all away
Get rid the wonder
And set it all up in flames
Numbers and chemicals
Explain it all away
Get rid the wonder
Get rid the wonder of his name

Burned
07:01
|
|||
Desolate
What a wasteland
All the green has gone away
Toxic
In our openness
Our hate has "saved the day"
Step outside into the gravel now
Get off your throne
Put your hand into the fire now
Why can't we get burned?
If we will heal why shouldn’t we get burned?
Why should we be the only ones who learned?
Cross-hairs
Focus on her head
She never had a chance
Come down
Float back to the ground
The jury closed today
Step outside into the gravel now
Get off your throne
Put your hand into the fire now
Why can't we get burned?
If we will heal why shouldn’t we get burned?
Why should we be the only ones who learned?
How can you judge her for
The things you’ve done?

Sunrise o’er your eyes tonight
Let’s slow down, let’s slow down
Glimmers on the moon tonight
Let’s start now, let’s slow down
Nothing said could make this better
As the sun sets we’re getting redder
Butterflies carry words I sing
You kiss me in the car
The stars shine, planets over our heads
This is where we are
Nothing said could make this better
As the sun sets we’re getting redder
Nothing said could make this better
After all we’re here together

There's Miss Lucy Lue
Standin' on the side
Watchin' as the world flies by
There's a smile on her face
But deep inside she's cryin'
Cryin' out for love, yeah
Everybody that she sees
Has somebody there
Someone there to hold them tight
She would never wish them wrong
She's so happy for them
She just wants to feel it too
She's lookin' for love that she can't find
She's lookin' for someone to hold her
She just wants to be happy
She knows there is someone there for her
But she's waited for so long
When will it be her turn?
A few times she'd thought she'd found
What they call true love
And not just some infatuation
But when she'd tell them how she felt
They never felt the same
And it'd all just fall apart
She's lookin' for love that she can't find
She's lookin' for someone to hold her
She just wants to be happy
She knows there is someone there for her
But she's waited for so long
When will it be her turn?
She's given up on love
There's no one there for her
She's given up on love
No one's gunna rescue her
She's given up on love
There's not one there for her
She's given up on love
No one's gunna rescue her
Then outta the darkness
Someone comes to rescue her
Someone who loves her
And she feels the same way and
Everything is looking up for poor Miss Lucy Lue
There's Miss Lucy Lue
Standin' on the side
Watchin' as the world flies by
There's a smile on her face
And her arm's wrapped in his
And everything is looking up
She was lookin' for love that she couldn't find
She was lookin' for someone to hold her
She just wanted to be happy
She knew there was someone there for her
And she waited for so long
And now it is her turn
Miss Lucy Lue
Miss Lucy Lue
Oh, yeah, please don't you cry
You've finally found someone for you
Someone who loves you and you
Love him too please tell me how you fin'lly found
True love, I want it too
There're days I cry I feel so alone
I just want to have someone to hold
And then there're days
When I am perfectly content all by myself
I know I'm not the only one who feels this way
There are so many
Who are searching for a lasting love
